Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player, Black Buy Now

I waited until the price of Blu-ray players fell below $200. I read everywhere that this Panny produced an exceptional picture. I also read that it had all the various sound modes I could want. As far as I could tell the only advantage of the next more expensive model is that it could accomodate analog connections. I had converted to all HDMI so this low cost model seems preferable.

My old Phillips DVD player had many user interface problems but it did have an excellent up converting mode. The Panny DB60 is at least as good.

So what else? Audio, video and up-converting are universally agreed to be top notch. The only issue seems to be loading times.

The $500 Oppo Blu-ray player is said to have the fastest loading times. Should I have paid more than three times as much just to get a faster loading time? As it happens there is a new firmware release which may speed up loading operations. I saw that this was available and I downloaded it (very easy) at once. That is my one regret. Had I been more patient I would have timed the loading and other operations before the download, I would then have before and after statistics and know if the early critiques of loading were still valid.

BTW the YouTube option isn't very useful. I'm surprised. I have a good number of uploaded videos on YouTube. I expected to use this feature. Alas, the low res Flash videos with low bit rate mono audio don't benefit much from being experienced on a big screen with a Dolby 5.1 speaker system.
