Well, I took the plunge and got this blu-ray player. I looked around at the various models and it came down to what features I wanted regarding blu-ray. I already have my computer and X-Box networked together to view Netflix streaming, access local hard drive etc, so I didn't need the features that other brands offer. The reason I got one was to view blu-ray discs. This unit is superb in that regard. I have watched a number of blu-ray discs since I got it and each one has been excellent quality. Of course one reason might be that I ordered the ones that are rated "top ten" by various websites. The first thing I did was hook it up to the internet and downloaded the latest firmware. Connection to the internet was flawless as was the install of the firmware. I read about the "freezing" that some have encountered so I wondered if I too would have that problem. I have not experienced that issue at all. I have up-scaled a number of DVD's and yes, you can see a difference. In most cases it was minor however, not a significant change from how it looked before. Regarding the sound, I don't have a Home Theater receiver that accepts HDMI so I can't comment on the HD sound or other sound attributes that are beyond the capability of the digital audio that I am using. As an aside, I needed a new HDMI cable so I ordered one right here on Amazon for a total of $2.98 that works great - you can read reviews on them and decide if you want to purchase one for $149 or $3.
To sum up, if you are looking for a great blu-ray player for under $150 you can't go wrong with this one. Get more detail about Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player, Black.
