I am coming from a POS, Element EDBC011 and the difference is night and day. I KNOW better than to buy no-name brand products, but something(Probably it's $130 price point) convinced me to try the no-names once more. The stupid thing took LITERALLY 5-8 minutes to start a Blu-Ray (If it would play them at all), which is insane. I ended up throwing it away. It was THAT bad. In contrast, this Panasonc loads and starts playing Blu-Rays in about 1-2 minutes and I haven't found a Blu-Ray yet it won't play! NOTE: There is a firmware update available, which improves speed from the factory shipped install. If you have your player hooked up to a broadband connection, it will alert you and allow you to download on the spot. I have also only experienced a freeze condition once and it was with The Fifth Element, which also froze on the Element player (irony at it's best), leading me to believe there's a disc defect.
Picture quality is simply outstanding with either Blu-Rays or regular DVD's. The upscaling for regular DVD's is the best I've seen to date. I have this paired with a Panasonic TC-L42U12 and good LORD what a combo. The VieraLink makes operation even easier.
Sound quality is also top-notch. I have it going to both the LCD speakers and a Home Theater and both sound amazing. The HT, of course is more breathtaking.
VieraCast gives you extras such as YouTube viewing, Weather, Amazon Movies, Picasa viewing and more are in the works. This is definitely not a huge selling point and somewhat gimmicky, but it's still a cool addition to an already great player. I have watched a few youtube vids and as expected, they are choppy and "bleh", but that's due to the video resolution and not the player. Picasa web albums look great, however.
I highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a great price on a great Blu-Ray player. Get more detail about Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player, Black.
